The Plate Vision system is fully self-contained in a regulation sized home plate, and is intended as a drop-in replacement for a regular home plate. The plate is operated by a remote clicker which shows ball location on the screen, verbally states whether the last pitch was a ball or strike, allows the operator/umpire to override calls, and also keep track of the game like a score keeper. It also contains a wifi module to let others view the calls on the field, and even see pictures of the ball as it passes over the plate.

Freestate Optics, a Maryland based company, invented the Plate Vision system and holds the respected patents associated with the system. The co-founders are Dr. John Rzasa and Dr. Christopher Davis. Todd Levitt is CEO.
